When I make personal projects I try my best to fund them using grants or award money. This sometimes happens and sometimes doesn’t. Sometimes, I just work extra odd jobs to make sure I can do a project and still eat. I used to work a service job like every normal artist to keep afloat while I try and make it. Right before the pandemic, in February 2020, I decided to transition out of this and just try to make it as an artist… The timing on that was impeccably comedic.

I did receive a grant for my Lisa & Friends show (Thank you RACC!).

I am always writing grants for my organization, for other organizations in the community, and even for myself when I get an idea, and there’s a timeline that coincides. But sometimes, I just get an idea and I have to go with it. Grant or not. It becomes a need or a must— something I have to do because I feel called to do it or it comes to me in a dream and I cannot explain it rationally otherwise. Sometimes this is expressed within the organization I run, within other projects I’m apart of, but lately, it has been expressed in a personal way, as Lisa Lipton: the artist in her own right.

If you feel like making a donation for Mirrors are for Lovers; ITS OKAY TO LOVE YOURSELF BACK, I’d love that. It won’t go to me, it’ll go to all of the artists involved, who also make art because they have to, not always because they have the money or someone gives them the money, not always when a grant or project lines up with their need, but just because they need to. If there’s any excess leftover, then something will go to me, to paying my rent or making more art. You don’t need to make a donation to enjoy my art, but if you want to support me and my efforts, it is something you can do if you feel like expressing gratitude in that way.

Thank you so much for listening, learning, experiencing, feeling, and interacting.
